BCBG (Bunnies Caged, Bunnies Gashed)

The initials BCBG do not stand for “Bunnies Caged, Bunnies Gashed”, but they might consider changing it to that. In 2008 BCBG signed a pledge to be fur-free, but has quickly gone back on their word and included plenty of sad, dead rabbit fur in their Holiday 2011 collection. Fur is no holiday for rabbits – especially when there are plenty of compassionate alternatives.

Twenty dead rabbits draped over you says I Hate Animals Peace & Joy at any lovely holiday party:

In Defense of Animals says:

“We are disappointed that BCBG is moving in the wrong direction and has gone back on their word. Over 50 million animals a year suffer and die in the fur industry and BCBG is contributing to the misery. Please join IDA in asking BCBG to honor their original compassionate choice and go fur free … again! Click here now to send an e-mail to BCBG.”

Rabbits are individuals whose intelligence, playfulness, and sociability is difficult to ignore. Yet, confining and killing rabbits for their fur and meat is the fastest-growing part of the fur industry. According to RabbitFur.org, conditions for rabbits include:

…battery style system of bare wire mesh cages, with little space to move, never mind stretch out, play, hop or even sit fully upright. In some cases, caged rabbits can develop deformations of the spine.

Cages for single rabbits, such as those bred for their fur, have the floor space of about two shoe boxes. Cages with groups of up to 12 rabbits may only be a third larger.

…It is very common for rabbits to die en route to slaughter and rates as high as 7 or 8% have been reported

…Some animals were killed on the farm by being hit over the back of the head with a heavy stick before having their throats slit. Commercial slaughterhouses stunned the rabbits with electrical devices and again slit their throats. At one slaughterhouse filmed by CAFT, at which 9,000 rabbits were killed each day, rabbits were held in crates piled eight high in view of those being slaughtered. Covered in faeces and urine from rabbits in crates above them, some were clearly still alive as they bled to death.

And why warm yourself with sad, dead rabbits when you can warm them with cuter, soft faux-fur made with recycled poly, from Vaute Couture or super-lux faux from Imposter?

Also, the Icing (a subsidiary of Claire’s, Inc.) has jumped back on the rabbit bandwagon, and H&M may or may not be skirting their fur-free-retailer status by selling angora berets.
