INTERMIX Hates Animals

Fur-Free West Hollywood, the same group that brought you the ban on fur sales in West Hollywood, is launching their National Intermix: Please Stop Selling Fur day! There are protests going on November 5th in 5 major cities, so won’t you come out and join them?

INTERMIX has every type of slaughtered and skinned animal for sale: fox fur, rabbit fur, raccoon fur, and even coyote fur. Not only is fur inherently cruel, but it is totally unnecessary when there are so many fabulous alternatives available. As long as shops like INTERMIX continue to sell and market fur as cool, hip and rebellious, the fur industry will thrive. We know who the real rebels are (fur is painfully ordinary), so let’s show up and let them know.

We’ve been reaching out to INTERMIX for weeks, and they have ignored us, and featured even more fur in their stores.
When the public speaks, the industry listens. That’s why we will put pressure on INTERMIX, demanding they come to terms with the ramifications of their marketing and selling of fur.

If you cannot make it, PLEASE help the animals by signing our petition and together we can put compassion back in fashion! http://chn.ge/rjTWP1

    Thank you, Joshua!!

Practice what you fuckin preach!!!! Its ok for these protesters to wear leather jackets, suede and leather boots?!!! Where does this skin come from? Animals you hypocrites.

Have you ever heard of faux leather and faux-suede? If not, you’ve just proven how realistic fauxs are and how unnecessary real leather and fur is. Thanks for proving our point that you can have textiles that look like the real thing without actually hating and skinning animals.

What you should do is have the Sartorialist take pictures of the protestors and then  make it so you can mouse over the image and click through to buy the convincing vegan leather and vegan suede items!

All you haters, there are amazing vegan shoes out there, so do your homework first.  Then go vegan, go buy some Olsen Haus pumps and stroll over to Native Foods for an all-vegan “Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger”. xoxox

Before you make uninformed accusations, please have conversations with the protestors. I’ve been protesting fur for years and have heard these same comments over and over- it’s SO EASY in 2012 to have compassionate fashion if you do a few minutes of research.  Faux leather and faux fur can be indistinguishable from their cruel counterparts, and as most anti-fur protestors extend their compassion to all animals, I’d suggest asking to see their clothes/shoes’ labels before you go on a rant that is not based in fact.

I sat across the street at the Ivy watching and listening to these loud, obnoxious protesters who whom I must add were certainly wearing skins from an animal. One lady who was holding her dog for hours was wearing white knee length LEATHER  boots. Not sure if she was a hooker or a protester?!! Who are they kidding? Give us a break!!!!! Intermix…. My wife loved the fur vest she purchased and walked out in. Thank you and we will always support you!   -Dave

Its great that you care so much about cows, but did you even ask if they were leather or are you just assuming? I attended the NYC protest today and we all had nice shoes that looked like leather, but were in fact synthetic. I am a shoe designer, and the faux leathers have come a long way… Just look at Stelka Mccartney’s shoe collection. They look, feel and act like leather without having to use the skin if a cow.
Regardless, the leather and fur industries are very different. If you did some research instead of trying to play puritanical-Pete, you might actually realize that unless you hate animals, you too would be anti-fur – even if you wore leather. But it’s much easier to side with the bully than the underdog and pretend you are aware of some harsh reality that these silly protesters are oblivious to.

      Hi Dave,
Thanks for paying attention and helping us bring attention to the issues.  Unfortunately, some of our protestors were louder than others, and we can’t control them all- most of us were out there with a peaceful message of love & compassion, which we believe extends to animals.  I absolutely know the girl you’re referring to, and can assure you that, like the rest of us, her “leather” boots were faux.  Before you make accusations, I highly recommend you talk to the protestors and ask to see the tags on their clothes if cow abuse is an important issue to you.  I personally was wearing faux leather boots, a faux leather jacket, and a faux leather bag, to help show how easy it can be to be fashionable and cruelty free.  I would be happy to tell you the designer and source of each of my items of clothing, and I suspect the others protestors would feel the same way.

I too was across the street listening to some big mouth bitch scream and yell her head off.  (I feel really bad for her boyfriend…if she even has one cuz I can’t imagine who would put up with trash like her) I then walked across the street to because I noticed that some of these idiots appeared to be wearing leather.  Um, sorry, that was not fake leather, it was real, so ReinventTheIcon just keep your trap shut. All you protestors are hypocrites that have nothing better to do than interrupt commerce.  When you all decide to grow up, get real jobs and contribute, then you will drop your stupid slogans, signs, and banners and become responsible adults.  Until that time you are all just screaming babies with wet diapers.  Go join the idiots in downtown LA, pitch a tent and wait for this city to get the balls to finally clear you all out.
If you really want to do some good, go help a charity help children, the homeless, the hungry, the blind, the handicap or any one else that has had a less than fortunate life.
    Morons, all of you!!!

Your entire argument (can I actually call it that? Or is it more of an irrational fit of rage aimed at… what exactly? defending the fur industry?) is based on an ignorant assumption that these people were wearing leather. Unless you had a test done on their shoes, there is no way to tell the difference between some of the modern faux leathers and actual cow skin. I know it is beyond your comprehension that these people might actually live according to their values and not wear real leather, but you know what happens when you assume…

I see we hit a nerve, Deb. You really are lashing out which is a sign that this really deeply affected you. So good. Keep it coming.

As for you nonsensical “go help the starving children” plea – compassion is not exclusive. Most of us work on both human rights, and environmental issues as well as showing compassion for animals. They are interconnected. You, however, must hate animals. Why don’t you enlighten us with how much you do to help starving children instead of trolling the internet criticizing other people for voicing compassion?

Ah, the old false dilemma argument. Got any more cliches to share? How about you actually examine the issues instead of ranting like some brain dead redneck.

I was at the protest. My shoes indeed looked very convincingly suede-like. But they are in fact entirely synthetic, from a company called Good Guys. http://www.mooshoes.com/index.php?product=ANNA&color=beige I know, pretty sweet boots. I love them. My bag, too, often gets mistaken for leather. But is in fact totally synthetic. It’s from a company called Melie Bianco. Here’s my bag: http://www.meliebianco.com/category/all/B1166  So chic, and so much less expensive than most of the leather bags. Such quality construction and design. That day, there was not a stitch of anything made from an animal on my body. Not only am I not contributing to suffering, both animal and human (workers at leather tanneries endure grueling, terrible conditions, fyi), but there is nothing toxic on my body. Please take some time to research the amount of devastating toxins involved in preserving skins that would otherwise decompose. It’s disgusting. The leather and fur industry is a total fraud. It’s a marketing scheme. Please think for yourself and re-examine this absurd status quo.

I was a participant in the protest.  I was not shouting, and I held up a sign that said “Don’t follow fashion, follow your heart”.  I was not a fan of the loud chanting/screaming of another group that went at the protest, and wish to state that not all animal activists are loud, shrieking people. Some of us are dignified, respectful, and hard working people (I own my landscape architecture firm and own my house) who wish only to inform the public on the horrors of the fur trade.  I wanted to encourage customers that buying fur is ending the lives of some beautiful animals and it shouldn’t be encouraged.  As for leather, I was wearing all canvas and cotton.  None of the protesters were wearing real leather or fur either. I’m glad you couldn’t tell it was fake, that’s proof positive that the fake alternatives are there and should be embraced.  As for commerce, I would never stand in the way of that, but I do want to encourage people to make more compassionate choices, so the corporations will have no choice but to satisfy their demands.
